  • Redpan @ Marina Square
Saturday, March 12, 2016 | Posted by Jean
I love fushion food! I'm always curiously about how chefs plays around with the flavours and discover new dishes to be trending in the food scene.

I discovered Redpan during the wee hours of the night, while browsing the net aimlessly on my phone. And the more I read about them, the more excited I got. Within 10mins, I already reserved a table to dine in the next day.

Reached the restaurant at 7pm as per what I reserved, but shockingly, the waitress told us that all grilled items are 'out of stock' already. Say what?! I was still looking forward to try the beef leh~ Next time perhaps.

    Truffle Mushroom Soup - $8

The truffle smell was so sexy when the waiter was about to arrive at our table. There is no truffle shavings, and it's not oily - given that there is truffle olive oil in the supermarkets now - but the rich truffle smell & taste was there! Then again, I like my mushroom soup with chunky mushroom but this doesn't have any.

Char Siew Chilli Fries - $7

One of their signature fries is the Char Siew Chilli Fries and the other is the Truffle Floss Fries. Decided on this, because it is totally 'brand new' in the market! Not too sweet, not spicy, not salty, with the compliments of the sour cream & jalapeño salsa, I can only describe it in one word - ADDICTIVE! So yummy that I think I can have this without sharing. :D

    Pork Pops - $9

Even though I know it's pork belly, but this is way too oily, especially when it starts to cool after serving. Even though the pork was flavourful, not salty, but the oil was soaking the bottom half portion of the pork. Mango sauce wasn't impressive too, as it was just sweet. If I were to do this as home, the pork should be less oily, and the sauce should mimick thai sauces that has a bit of acidic level and some spicyness that helps cease the oil that ooze out of the pork.

    'Lup Cheong' Mac & Cheese - $14

Cheesy, creamy & tender. They are generous with the cheese and lup cheong bits, and surprisingly, it not as salty as I thought it would be. If you don't mind the jilat-ness, you can order it as a personal main course. But for me, I would prefer to share the fats with others.

Prawn & Hae Bi Hiam Pasta - $16

I'm never a hae bi hiam (shrimp paste) fan and often think that the smell is too pungent in the mouth. However, I have to try this because it's one of their signature main course and I have company to finish it for me if I didn't like it. :P This dish however, is not as 'smelly' as I thought it would be. Took the first bite & decided that 5-6 more bites won't kill. The sauce is well coated with the pasta, and every bite you take, it ensures maximum flavour in your mouth.

Banana Donuts ‘Milo Dinosaur' - $7

As a huge fan of banana dessert, it hard to give this a miss even though I was really full. The last time I had a banana donut, it was from one of the malay stalls that sells them as snack. This one here is a bit more doughy, even though there is still taste of the banana. The Milo powder wasn't as sweet as it should be, so end up, this dessert was just passable.

I am determine to return to Redpan someday to try their 'Steak & Chinchalok' & some other fushion dishes. Overall, it's slightly pricey but it's worth for the experience to expose your palate to fushion food.
